Dental Fillings in Gonzales, TX
Discreet, Durable, and Done in One Visit
When decay is caught early, a filling is one of the most straightforward procedures in dentistry — a single appointment, minimal discomfort, and a result that blends seamlessly with your natural tooth. The key is catching it early, which is exactly why regular exams matter.

Why Choose Smiles of Gonzales for Dental Fillings
Conservative, natural-looking restorations:
- Tooth-colored composite resin — matches your natural tooth shade and is virtually invisible
- Bonds directly to tooth structure — less removal of healthy tooth than metal fillings required
- Completed in a single appointment — you leave with a finished, permanent restoration
- We treat the tooth conservatively — removing only what needs to go, preserving everything that can be saved
- Private, family-owned practice — we never recommend more treatment than your tooth actually needs
A small cavity today is a quick, comfortable appointment.
Left alone, it becomes something significantly more involved.
Why Tooth-Colored Composite Fillings
The modern standard for a reason:
Composite resin has become the standard for tooth-colored restorations, and for good reason. The material bonds chemically to your tooth structure, which means we can prepare a smaller, more conservative cavity than older amalgam (silver) fillings required. Less tooth removal means more of your natural structure is preserved — and a stronger tooth long-term.
The result is a filling that functions like part of your tooth and looks like it too. In most cases, a well-placed composite filling is indistinguishable from the surrounding enamel. Patients who have had old metal fillings replaced with composite frequently remark that they had forgotten which teeth had fillings at all.

The Filling Procedure
Straightforward and comfortable:
Most fillings are completed comfortably in a single appointment. We numb the area with local anesthesia so you feel no discomfort during the procedure. The decayed portion of the tooth is carefully removed, the area is cleaned, and the composite material is placed in layers and shaped to match the natural contour of your tooth. A curing light hardens each layer as it's placed. We then check and refine your bite before you leave.
Most patients are surprised by how straightforward the experience is. Post-appointment sensitivity, if any, is typically mild and short-lived.

When a Dental Filling Isn't Enough
We'll always be honest about what your tooth needs:
Not every cavity is appropriate for a filling. When decay is extensive — when it has reached the inner pulp of the tooth, or when so much structure is compromised that a filling can't adequately support the tooth — our dentists Dr. Weinman, Dr. Leon-Weinman, & Dr. Haug will tell you honestly and explain what the right solution is. That might be a crown, a root canal, or in some cases a combination of both. We always explain our reasoning and show you the imaging so you can see exactly what we're seeing.
Replacing Old Metal Fillings
Only when it's clinically appropriate:
Many patients ask about replacing older amalgam fillings. If an existing filling is failing — cracked, leaking, or allowing new decay to develop around it — replacement is clinically appropriate and we'll recommend it. If an old filling is sound and functioning well, we'll tell you that too. We don't recommend replacement for cosmetic reasons alone unless the patient specifically wants it and understands what's involved.
“A filling done well and done at the right time is one of the best investments in your dental health. A tooth we restore conservatively today is a tooth that serves you well for years to come.”
