Tooth Extraction in Gonzales, TX
When Saving a Tooth Isn't Possible, We Do the Next Best Thing
We always try to save a tooth. That's not a policy — it's a clinical philosophy rooted in the fact that no restoration, however good, fully replaces a natural tooth. We will exhaust every reasonable option before recommending extraction.

How We Handle Extractions Differently at Smiles of Gonzales
Genuine care and technical skill:
- Dental emergencies are prioritized — if you're in pain, call us first and we will make every effort to get you seen as soon as possible
- Local anesthesia ensures you feel no discomfort during the procedure — sedation available if you want extra comfort or have dental anxiety
- Dr. Weinman brings 35+ years of extraction experience; Dr. Leon-Weinman brings advanced training and the kind of quiet, steady chairside manner that makes anxious patients exhale — together they're exactly who you want when something needs to come out
- Most simple extractions are completed in a single, straightforward appointment — faster relief than most patients expect
- We work with most PPO dental insurance plans and offer financing options
When a tooth needs to come out, the worst thing you can do is wait.
Pain doesn't improve on its own, and infection doesn't resolve without treatment.
When Extraction Is the Right Choice
Sometimes the right answer is clear:
- Severe decay — that has compromised the tooth beyond restorable limits
- A crack or fracture — that extends below the gum line
- Advanced periodontal disease — with significant bone loss and tooth mobility
- A tooth that has failed to respond — to root canal therapy
- Erupted wisdom teeth — causing pain, crowding, recurrent infection, or adjacent tooth damage
- Orthodontic extraction — to create space for proper alignment
Wisdom Teeth — What We Handle In-Office and What We Refer
Most erupted wisdom teeth handled right here:
For erupted wisdom teeth — those that have fully broken through the gum surface — we handle most cases right here in our Gonzales office. If you're having pain, recurring infections, or crowding issues from a fully visible wisdom tooth, there's a good chance we can take care of it without sending you anywhere.
For impacted or partially erupted wisdom teeth — those still below or partially below the gumline, which require a more surgical approach — we refer to our flagship location in Seguin or to a local trusted oral and maxillofacial surgeon. We'll coordinate that referral directly and make sure your records transfer seamlessly.

Our Approach to Patient Comfort
You should not feel pain:
The area is fully numbed before we begin. You will feel pressure during the procedure — this is unavoidable and normal — but you should not feel pain. If you do, tell us immediately and we will stop and address it. We do not rush through extractions. For patients who prefer a more relaxed experience, sedation is available and completely appropriate.
Your Tooth Is Extracted — Now What?
The extraction is not the end of the story:
A missing tooth is not just an aesthetic gap. Over time, neighboring teeth drift toward the empty space, the opposing tooth may over-erupt, and the bone beneath the gap begins to resorb. These changes compound and make future treatment more complicated and more expensive.
We will discuss your replacement options before you leave: a dental implant, a bridge, or a partial denture, depending on the location of the tooth, your bone levels, and your preferences. The extraction is not the end of the story. It's the beginning of the next chapter, and we want to make sure that chapter has a plan.
Tooth Extraction Recovery and Aftercare
We're available by phone during your recovery:
We provide detailed written aftercare instructions following every extraction. Avoiding dislodging the healing clot in the socket is the primary goal for the first 24 to 48 hours. We are available by phone to answer questions during your recovery. If you develop signs of dry socket — a throbbing, increasingly severe pain beginning two to four days after extraction — call us promptly. It's treatable and we address it quickly.
Dr. Janice Weinman and Dr. Janelle Leon-Weinman serve patients from Gonzales, Seguin, Cuero, Shiner, Yoakum, Luling, Schulenburg, Hallettsville, and communities throughout south-central Texas. If you're in pain or you know a tooth needs attention, don't put it off another day.
