When Something Goes Wrong, Call Us First
Dental emergencies don't follow a schedule. A broken tooth, a lost crown, a nagging toothache, sudden severe pain, or swelling that wasn't there yesterday — these situations are stressful, they're often unexpected, and they deserve prompt attention. When something goes wrong with your teeth or mouth, your first call should be to your dentist.

Situations That Warrant an Immediate Call
Call us at (830) 672-8664:
- Severe toothache — especially throbbing, persistent pain not responding to over-the-counter medication
- Cracked, fractured, or broken tooth — particularly if a sharp edge is cutting the tongue or cheek
- A knocked-out tooth — time is critical; see guidance below
- Lost crown, inlay, or filling — leaving a sensitive or sharp tooth exposed
- Dental abscess — swelling in the jaw or face, especially with fever or difficulty swallowing
- Soft tissue injury or laceration — inside the mouth
- A tooth pushed out of position — by impact
- Broken appliance or denture — causing pain or tissue damage
What to Do Before You Reach Us
If a Tooth Has Been Knocked Out Completely
Pick the tooth up by the crown — the white part — not the root. Do not scrub it. Rinse gently with water if it's dirty. If you can, reinsert it into the socket and bite gently on a cloth. If reinsertion isn't possible, keep it moist: in milk, or held inside your cheek. Call us immediately. A knocked-out tooth has the best chance of being saved within 30 to 60 minutes. Every minute matters.
If a Tooth Is Cracked or Broken
Rinse gently with warm water. Apply a cold compress to your cheek to reduce swelling. Dental wax can protect a sharp edge temporarily. Call as soon as possible — a cracked tooth left unprotected is at risk of fracturing further.
If You've Lost a Crown or Filling
Dental wax or sugarless gum can protect the exposed tooth temporarily. Do not use superglue or household adhesives. Call us — in many cases a lost crown is a same-appointment fix, especially with our CEREC technology on site.
If You Have Swelling, Fever, or Difficulty Swallowing
These symptoms may indicate a spreading dental infection. Call us immediately. Do not wait until tomorrow. If the swelling is significant and spreading rapidly, or if you have difficulty breathing or swallowing, go to the nearest emergency room or call 911. Dental infections that spread to the neck and airway are medical emergencies.

What Happens When You Come In for Emergency Dentistry
You leave in less pain and with a clear plan:
We assess the situation, manage your pain, and address what needs immediate attention. In some cases that means definitive treatment at the same appointment. In others, we stabilize the situation and schedule comprehensive treatment for a close follow-up. Either way, you leave in less pain and with a clear plan.
“When a patient calls in pain or distress, the entire practice orients around getting them seen and comfortable. It's not a disruption to our day — it's one of the most important things we do.”
When something goes wrong, the last thing you need is to figure out where to go. Dr. Weinman, Dr. Leon-Weinman, & Dr. Haug are here for patients in Gonzales, Seguin, Cuero, Shiner, Hallettsville, Schulenburg, Yoakum, Luling, Nixon, and across this part of Texas — and we make every effort to see you the same day you call.
